- ✓The stage or mandap itself: the structure, its backdrop, the sofa or thrones, and the steps and walkway in front of it.
- ✓Florals, fresh or silk, on the stage, along the aisle and on the tables. Fresh costs more and looks it; silk survives four events.
- ✓The entrance and welcome area: signage, a photo backdrop, a flower wall, the name boards.
- ✓Table styling: centrepieces, linen, chair covers or sashes, charger plates, candles.
- ✓Lighting and drapes, which do more for a plain hall than anything else on the list.

Stage and mandap hire: what to ask
- How big is the stage, and does it fit the venue with room for photographs in front of it? Get the venue's floor plan to the decorator before they quote.
- Is it one setup for the whole week, or a restyle between the mehndi, the wedding and the walima, and what does each restyle cost?
- Are the florals fresh or artificial, and are they included or priced separately?
- What are the delivery, setup and takedown times, and do they match the venue's access hours?
- What is the deposit, what happens if the date moves, and is travel outside their base charged?
